We Care About Your Health

At Apple Hill Hospital, we are committed to providing comprehensive, high-quality care for individuals facing mental health crises. We pride ourselves on offering a safe, compassionate, and stabilising environment where both men and women can receive the urgent care they need during an acute episode of mental illness. Whether our patients come to us voluntarily or are detained under the Mental Health Act, our mission is to deliver holistic, person-centred care that promotes recovery, empowerment, and social inclusion

Our Mission

Our primary aim is to stabilise mental health and wellbeing as swiftly and effectively as possible. Through thorough clinical assessments, we focus on creating personalised treatment plans that support recovery and prepare individuals for reintegration into the community. We believe in fostering independence and resilience, empowering each person to take control of their mental health and engage actively in their own recovery process. We offer both short-term care for acute conditions and ongoing psychiatric rehabilitation, providing the tools and support needed for long-term wellbeing.

Our Approach to Care

Our services are founded on a multidisciplinary approach that integrates the expertise of a wide range of mental health professionals. Each member of our team, from psychiatrists and psychologists to nurses, therapists, and social workers, brings a unique set of skills and knowledge to ensure that our patients receive comprehensive and collaborative care.

We recognise that mental health recovery is not a one-size-fits-all process. Therefore, our approach to care is flexible and personalised. Our philosophy of care is grounded in these core principles:

Person Centered Care
  • At the heart of everything we do is the belief that every person deserves to be treated with respect, dignity, and empathy. Our patients are partners in their care, and we work closely with them, their families, and other stakeholders to create tailored treatment plans that meet their individual needs.
Evidence Based Treatment

All of our treatments are based on the latest research and best practices in mental health care. We continually invest in the professional development of our staff to ensure they remain at the forefront of mental health assessment, treatment, and rehabilitation.

Recovery Focused Care

We are committed to promoting sustainable recovery, focusing on relapse prevention, self-management, and empowering individuals to regain control of their lives. Our recovery programmes aim to equip people with the skills and support they need to manage their symptoms, avoid future crises, and lead fulfilling lives.

  • Inclusive and Respectful Care: We believe in treating everyone with equality, dignity, and respect. Our team is dedicated to creating a supportive environment where both patients and staff can thrive, learn new skills, and contribute meaningfully to their communities.
    • Multidisciplinary Team (MDT) Approach: Collaboration is key to providing effective care. Our MDT works together to ensure that every aspect of a person’s wellbeing is considered, from psychological and emotional needs to physical health, social circumstances, and ongoing care in the community.

Who We Serve

We provide care for individuals aged 18 and over who are experiencing a mental health crisis and require urgent admission. Our services are available to both working-age adults and older adults, whether they come to us voluntarily or are detained under the Mental Health Act. We specialise in treating a wide range of mental health conditions, including those with pre-existing diagnoses or newly emerging symptoms.

Our patients are often in a vulnerable state when they arrive, and we understand the importance of creating a welcoming and safe environment. We aim to provide immediate support, stabilise symptoms, and work towards recovery in a way that is respectful and inclusive of each person’s individual circumstances.

Admissions and Treatment

Admission to our hospital is based on a thorough assessment of each individual’s needs. We welcome both informal patients—those who voluntarily seek help—and those who are admitted under the Mental Health Act. Upon admission, our team conducts a comprehensive assessment to understand the unique challenges and needs of each patient. This assessment forms the foundation of a personalised treatment plan, which is continually reviewed and adapted as needed.

Treatment at Apple Hill is guided by evidence-based practices and focused on recovery. We offer a range of therapeutic interventions, including medication management, psychological therapies, and occupational therapy. We also recognise the importance of social support and work closely with families, carers, and community services to ensure a smooth transition back to everyday life.

We believe that no one should stay with us longer than necessary, and our goal is always to help individuals regain stability and independence as quickly as possible. As part of this, we place a strong emphasis on discharge planning, ensuring that everyone leaving our care is equipped with the tools, knowledge, and support they need to continue their recovery journey.

Our Philosophy

Our philosophy of care is rooted in the belief that everyone deserves the opportunity to achieve their personal best. Mental health is a journey, and while the path may not always be straightforward, we are here to provide the guidance, support, and resources needed to help individuals move forward with confidence. The core principles of our philosophy include:

Clinical Thoroughness

We believe in carrying out thorough and effective assessments to ensure that every aspect of a person’s mental health is addressed. This enables us to stabilise their condition in the shortest possible time and create a solid foundation for recovery.

Collaborative Care

We are committed to working closely with patients, their families, carers, and other stakeholders, including the commissioners of our services. We believe that care is most effective when everyone involved is working towards the same goal.

Patient Involvement

We encourage and support individuals to take an active role in their own care and treatment. By involving them in decision-making, we empower them to take control of their recovery and foster a sense of ownership over their mental health journey.

Sustainable Recovery

Our goal is not just to treat symptoms but to help individuals achieve lasting recovery. Through a combination of therapeutic interventions, education, and support, we equip people with the skills and knowledge they need to manage their mental health and prevent future crises.

Social Inclusion

We believe in the importance of social inclusion and community integration. We work with individuals to help them develop the skills and confidence they need to participate fully in society and lead fulfilling, meaningful lives.

Positive Risk Management

We embrace a robust approach to positive risk management. This means that we support individuals in taking controlled, positive risks that can help them grow, learn, and make progress in their recovery. By managing risk in a constructive way, we encourage personal development and resilience.

Our Team

Our team is made up of dedicated professionals with a passion for mental health care. We employ a wide range of specialists, including psychiatrists, psychologists, nurses, occupational therapists, social workers, and support staff. Each member of our team brings a wealth of experience and knowledge, and together we create a supportive, caring, and effective environment for our patients.

We believe in investing in our staff and providing them with the training and resources they need to excel in their roles. We are committed to continuous professional development and encourage our team members to stay up to date with the latest research and advancements in mental health care.

Our staff are not just experts in their fields—they are compassionate, understanding, and dedicated to helping individuals achieve their best possible outcomes. We take pride in the relationships we build with our patients and their families, and we work tirelessly to create an atmosphere of trust and support.

Community Partnerships

We recognise that recovery doesn’t happen in isolation, which is why we place a strong emphasis on building partnerships with local services and community organisations. These partnerships are crucial to ensuring that individuals have access to the support they need once they leave our care.

Whether it’s connecting patients with community mental health teams, housing services, or employment support, we are committed to facilitating a smooth transition back into the community. Our goal is to provide a continuum of care that extends beyond the walls of our hospital and supports long-term recovery.

Relapse Prevention and Aftercare

One of the key components of our care is relapse prevention. We believe that preparing individuals for life after discharge is just as important as the treatment they receive while they are with us. Our aftercare plans are designed to help individuals recognise early warning signs, manage their symptoms, and access the support they need to stay well.

We offer ongoing support through our aftercare services, ensuring that individuals feel confident and supported as they transition back to independent living. Our team is always available to provide guidance, answer questions, and offer support as needed.

Our Commitment to Equality and Diversity

We are proud to be a hospital that embraces diversity and promotes equality. We are committed to ensuring that everyone who comes through our doors is treated with respect, dignity, and fairness. We strive to create an inclusive environment where people from all backgrounds feel welcome and supported.

Our staff are trained in equality and diversity, and we actively promote these values throughout our organisation. We believe that by fostering an inclusive culture, we can provide better care and support for all of our patients, regardless of their background or circumstances.
